of science and technology people have learned how to extract and process not only iron but also various other metals. It is interesting that the sphere of their use has also expanded. Today, the metal is valued not only for its strength, but also for its other characteristics. Therefore, products and products made of different metals can be found in the most unusual, at first glance, areas of the economy and everyday life.


Metal foil is familiar to every housewife. It is used to bake products in the oven, for wrapping and storing ready-made meals. The thinnest metal sheet is valued not for its strength and durability, which characterizes metal, but for its heat-reflecting properties. By the way, foil has no tensile strength, on the contrary, it tears easily.


Reflective properties of a polished metal surface have been appreciated for a very long time. Such abilities were used by manufacturers of mirrors, applying a metallic composition to glass. Here the strength characteristics of metal are not important at all, while the ability to reflect is indispensable.


Precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum are used to make valuable jewelry. And ferrous metal alloys are used to make costume jewelry. Jewelers appreciate the fluidity and plasticity of metals, which allows creating openwork, incredibly beautiful and at the same time durable chains, brooches, earrings.


The ability of some metals, such as mercury, to expand when heated has allowed the creation of thermometers. A great way of medical diagnosis cannot be imagined without this invention, in which metal is used unconventionally.

Since some metals have a higher ability to resist negative external factors, they are used for protection. A prime example of this unconventional use of metal is galvanizing (coating with a layer of zinc) of iron products. Zinc has a much higher resistance to corrosive processes than iron, so coating an iron structure with zinc spraying provides an opportunity to protect the object from oxidation and the effects of moisture.
